The helical wire is a cord looped about 5 millimeters in diameter obtained thanks interweaving of 3 steel wires helically wound in a single direction or in both directions, alternating the rotation every 25-40 meters, and is used for the cutting of marble. The basic concept of the cut through helical wire is a hard material that affects a material less hard and the set of incisions determines a cut. The machine that the leads is constituted by a motor, by a mechanical device that keeps the thread under tension and by a system that releases an abrasive substance, typically consisting of water and silica sand. The wire is made to slide on the rock to be cut at a speed of several meters per second. Rubbing united action of the abrasive substance causes a strong heating of the wire; for cooling its length varies from 1000 to 2000 meters. Obviously the wire is subject to degradation, its consumption in fact varies from 10 to 30 meters of wire each square meter of the cut surface and depends also on the type of rock on which one works and dall'abrasivo used.
