Photos from the series: The Memoria Project
Stephen Shaheen, with fellow sculptor Evan Urbania, executed "The Memoria Project" which stands in Veteran's Memorial Park in Highlands, N.J. From the rear, two 13-foot rectangular blocks of marble resemble the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The front view depicts two figures partially emerging from the forms. The project is an endeavor to create a lasting tribute to the victims and survivors of Sept. 11. Monmouth County, which lost 146 people in the terrorist attacks, formed a nonprofit corporation to oversee creation of the commemorative stone sculpture. |
